The Barcelona "holy trinity" midfield took the first three places for the European Footballer of the Year - the balon d`or- at the big ceremony in Zurich last night, Argentine Lionel Messi took the spoils among some contraversy that the pre award favourite and Spanish world cup final goalscorer was edged out to second place, compatriot Xavi Hernandez grabbed 3rd spot with 16.48% of the vote, Iniesta polled 17.36% and winner Messi topped out with 22.65%. No surprise that Jose Mourinho took the coach of the year award after leading Internazionale to an unpresedented triple last year, the Italian domestic double and the Champions league, the first time the Milan giants had taken the top prize since 1965, next up is the world awards and i would be surprised if that one doesn`t pruduce the same top three, though maybe not in the same order, i`ve a sneak for Iniesta this time, watch this space......
